Worth the ‘weight’ | Planet Fitness opens location in Granbury
It’s time to put down those fries and get ready to exercise.
Planet Fitness, a popular and affordable fitness center, opened its Granbury location on Jan. 16, located at 301 E. U.S. Highway 377 Suite 106 (in the former Bealls building near Staples).
With 49 locations in the greater DFW area and three nearby locations — Cleburne, Stephenville, and Weatherford — Planet Fitness is one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers in the United States, according to its website.
The 15,100 square foot Granbury location is equipped with a large selection of state-of-the-art cardio, circuit, and weight training equipment, with several TVs mounted in front of the cardio machines to serve as entertainment for members.
Separate locker room and shower facilities are provided for males and females, along with day-use lockers.
“Inside of our locker rooms, it’s going to be very spacious and clean,” said Krista Uzzell, Planet Fitness district manager. “We have three showers (for both men and women), changing rooms, and day-use lockers. All we do is ask you to bring your locks with you.”
Cleaning stations are offered throughout the gym and members are asked to wipe down the equipment before and after use.
Exclusive to Black Card members is the spa, featuring massage chairs and HydroMassage beds and loungers that use heated water to provide a relaxing, rejuvenating experience.
Granbury is also the first Planet Fitness location in this area to offer the RelaxSpace Wellness Pod — a feature that Uzzell is excited about.
The RelaxSpace Wellness Pod provides Planet Fitness members with an opportunity to disconnect and recharge for 15 minutes with a unique, multi-sensory experience, according to hydromassage.com.
Planet Fitness Black Card members can use the Wellness Pod to relax with nature videos, control their breathing with guided and controlled breathing therapy, reset with meditation, soothe sore muscles with heat therapy, lower stress with aromatherapy options, and explore unique cities of the world using the dashboard feature.
“The Granbury location, this is our first location that has the Wellness Pod, so that’s a great, huge, plus,” Uzzell said. “Then we do have the HydroMassage chairs and loungers, along with other amenities as well.”
Planet Fitness’ classic membership is $10 a month and includes unlimited fitness training during the week with a certified fitness instructor, access to the gym facilities, and free public Wi-Fi.
The Black Card membership is $24.99 a month and includes all features that the classic membership offers, as well as access to the Black Card Spa, access to any Planet Fitness location worldwide, and the option to bring a non-member.
“As a Black Card member, you can bring a guest with you every time you work out. They don’t have access to the Black Card Spa, but they have access to the gym itself,” Uzzell said.
One aspect that makes Planet Fitness unique is its non-intimidating atmosphere and judgment-free zone.
“I think it’s so important what we stand for,” Uzzell said. “We want all of our members to come in and feel like they’re part of something. We provide a very clean, safe program for our members to come in and get a workout — no matter what type of fitness journey you’re on.”
For anyone new to Planet Fitness or even working out in general, each piece of equipment includes a QR code for members to scan using the Planet Fitness app.
“You can scan the QR code, and it can show you how to use the equipment and what muscle groups you’re using,” Uzzell said. “The PF app is free to download and if you become a member, you can also use that PF app to check in.”
Uzzell said if anyone is interested in becoming a Planet Fitness member, they are welcome to come in anytime for a tour.
“I always tell members to come in so they can get a tour of the facility and any team member at the front desk will help with any questions you might have,” she said. “We just hope you become a member.”
Planet Fitness will be open in Granbury from 4 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
